Jolt Board electric skateboard with a black deck and red wheels

It was my own take on an electric skateboard, worked through as one system: a deck made from renewable bamboo and abaca fiber, hub motors that keep the wiring out of sight, an integrated battery, and a remote you can use with either hand.

The board reaches 15 to 20 mph and covers an estimated 8 to 10 miles on a single charge.

Sketches worked through the whole system at once: the deck, the enclosure underneath for the battery and electronics, the hub motor, an LED display and the handheld remote.

Materials and drive

The deck is made from renewable bamboo and abaca fiber, a durable base with some flex. Dual hub motors drive the wheels directly, which keeps the system clean with no exposed wiring, and an integrated lithium-ion battery gives it 15–20 mph and 8–10 miles per charge.

The remote

The remote is ambidextrous and keeps the layout simple and easy to use. An integrated safety strap keeps it secure in your hand while you ride through busy streets.
